No one person invented the internet. But there are several major breakthrough.
- Leonard Kleimrock: the first to publish a paper about the idea of packet switching.
- J.C.R. Licklider: the first to describe an internet-like world wide web network of computers in 1962.
- Larry G. Robert created the first functioning long distance computers in 1965 and designed the ARPANET.
- Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf : invented TCP
- Radia Perlman: invented spanning tree alogrithms in the 1980s
and why: The developer of ARPANET wanted to make communication between separate computer systems at various universities and research laboratories more convienient. Contrary to popular belief, while the internet was designed to survive the loss of various parts of network, it was never intended to survive a nuclear war.
Who invented the world wide web? and why?
Tim Berners-lee.
and why:
He had a big idea in mind when he and Robert Cailian invented Web: a "common information space in which we communicate by sharing information" at the time, they had a more immediate goal: to make it easier for nuclear physics researches to share information.
